In a time when food security is top of mind for so many people, we are here to help anyone who needs our services. For example, it was Veteran’s Day this week, and 8% of our households we deliver to are veterans. Around 20% of our folks are under the age of 65; we deliver to all ages. The majority of our folks are considered lower income for Boulder County. We are the only Meals on Wheels in Boulder County who take SNAP Benefits as a way to contribute for their meals.
Regardless of age or income, we are here for your neighbors.
Our services are for people who are not able to grocery shop or prepare their own meals for a variety of reasons. They may be physically disabled, mentally challenged, or have a chronic condition. The food banks help many people, but the people we serve are unable to use the ingredients to cook a meal.
This is why we deliver hot, prepared meals. All they have to do is enjoy their meal or re-heat it for a later time in the day. A prepared meal is the real blessing for these Boulder neighbors.
Also, the visits we provide are meaningful. Many of your Boulder neighbors who use our services are alone and do not have family nearby. The social interaction with our volunteer drivers gives them a positive mental lift each time. These friendly visits also provide a wellness check that can be the difference between life and death. If our drivers feel something is off, they will begin the emergency protocol.
With funding so uncertain these days, I hope you will remember your neighbors who strictly rely on our services for food. Many tell us it is the only meal of their day.
This Colorado Gives Day, we are aiming to raise $140,000. These gifts helps us during this quarter to continue our mission. Your gift during Colorado Gives Day is meaningful!
